Prairy Furniture
Each piece of furniture was designed and fabricated based on a house design inside Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve in Kansas.
Light Source — this piece was made up of thin cut garden stones, fastened together, and then illuminated via LED lights reflecting internally. This resembles the light shelf that illuminates the original house.
Surface — this piece was fabricated using sheet metal, re-bar, and rusted metal mesh. The slight skew in the surface and non-rectangular glass reflects intentions in original house design.
Chair — this piece was fabricated using steel tube, wire rope and cedar. The suspension of the actual sitting surface leaves users uneasy when initially taking a seat, once seated the angled back and natural movement from the wire rope leads to a very comfortable position.
